Nah Sang-hyun of Mr. Nah Band Issues Apology Amid Sexual Harassment Allegations

SEOUL, South Korea — Nah Sang-hyun, the frontman of the indie rock band Mr. Nah Band, publicly apologized on Friday after he was accused of sexually harassing a woman during a drinking event several years ago. This statement came amidst rising allegations on social media, where an anonymous account claimed Nah engaged in inappropriate behavior.

In his apology, posted on the social media platform X, Nah expressed his sincere regret: “I sincerely apologize to anyone who may have felt uncomfortable or distressed because of my past behavior.”

The Allegations Explained

The initial anonymous post alleged that Nah had touched a woman’s thigh while feigning inebriation at private gatherings. The poster noted their intention to remain anonymous due to the private nature of the incident, stating, “I’m writing vaguely to avoid identification. Since it happened in a private setting, there’s no evidence.”

Nah’s Response

In his response, Nah acknowledged the allegation, admitting that he struggled to recall specific events due to his intoxicated state but recognized his responsibility for his actions. He mentioned, “I am deeply sorry that I caused harm and did not apologize at the time. I now express my regret, even if belatedly.”

Furthermore, Nah revealed that he was confronted about his behavior approximately three to four years ago. Since then, he has actively sought to improve himself. He wrote, “After being called out for my words and actions while drinking, I took time to reflect and sought help from those around me. I will continue to work on myself and ensure that something like this never happens again. I again apologize to the person affected.”

Background on Mr. Nah Band

Nah, a graduate of Seoul National University, co-founded Mr. Nah Band in 2014 alongside drummer Kang Hyun-woong after they met in a campus songwriting club. The band, which has since evolved into a trio, has garnered a dedicated following in South Korea’s vibrant indie music scene.

Industry Context

The allegations against Nah emerge during a period of intensified scrutiny regarding harassment within the entertainment industry. Recent incidents, including those involving a former executive of Omega X and misconduct reports linked to a university retreat, have heightened awareness and discussions about accountability.

His apology has ignited conversations online, as fans and critics alike engage in dialogues about personal accountability and growth.

Looking Ahead

As of now, neither Nah nor Mr. Nah Band has announced any adjustments to their performance schedule, and there have been no formal statements issued by the band’s management regarding the ongoing allegations.
