“My Swiss bunny” – Donna Vekic treats pregnant Belinda Bencic to 1kg chocolate rabbit in celebration of Easter
On the special occasion of Easter, Donna Vekic gifted her close friend Belinda Bencic with a charming present.
Vekic and Bencic have shared a close relationship since their days as junior players. This was evident when they competed against each other in the quarterfinals of the US Open five years ago, where the Swiss emerged victorious in straight sets, marking a significant milestone in her career. Their warm embrace after the match exemplified the strength of their bond, which has only deepened over the past few years.
On Sunday (March 31), Donna Vekic shared a photo of a snowy road on her Instagram stories, with the caption “Happy Easter”.
Several hours later, Vekic shared another post in which Belinda Bencic was spotted playfully hiding behind a massive 1kg bunny made of chocolate. In her caption, the Croatian player affectionately referred to the former World No. 4 as her “Swiss bunny.”
“My Swiss 🐰🥰 @belindabencic,”Donna Vekic wrote in the caption.
Bencic was thrilled by her friend’s generous act, sharing the same story on her own Instagram account.
“1kg chocolate bunny from @donnavekic,”she wrote in her repost of the story.
Belinda Bencic Returns to the Court After a Year of Absence
After participating in the 2023 San Diego Open last September, Belinda Bencic took a break from the WTA Tour. In November, the Swiss player confirmed that she and her fitness coach and boyfriend, Martin Hromkovic, were expecting their first child.
“Expecting our little miracle soon! ✨🍼 We can’t wait to meet you🤍,”Bencic wrote on her Instagram handle last year.
Ever since, Bencic and Hromkovic have been preparing for the arrival of their new family member. This week, the 27-year-old shared a glimpse of the new nursery, including a small bed and a baby walker, with her followers on Instagram.
Bencic continues to be one of Switzerland’s top female players to this day. Recognized for her bold playing style, she has achieved a semifinal (2019) and two quarterfinal (2014, 2021) appearances at the US Open.
During the years 2020 to 2021, the Swiss athlete had a remarkable streak on the WTA Tour. In February 2020, she reached her highest-ever ranking of No. 4, and later went on to achieve a gold medal in women’s singles and a silver in women’s doubles at the Tokyo Olympics.
