Serena Williams reflected on her earliest memory of developing a love for beauty and makeup products, coinciding with the debut of her own makeup line, WYN Beauty.
Despite her successful career as the world’s top tennis athlete, Serena Williams has always been a fashion pioneer. Now at 42 years old, she has transformed her passion for beauty and fashion into a thriving venture, WYN Beauty. Her mother, Oracene Price, was one of the many sources of inspiration that motivated Williams to launch her own brand.
Throughout their successful careers, Serena and her older sister, Venus, have received unwavering support from their mother, Oracene Price. With Oracene by their side, the Williams sisters dominated the tennis world and cemented their places as legends in the world of sports. During the launch of WYN Beauty, Serena Williams reflected on the process of creating the brand and credited her mother, Oracene, for her involvement.
During an interview with Byrdie, a publication based in America, Williams shared a memory from her childhood of seeing her mother wear red lipstick and how she still wears it now. Additionally, the 23-time Grand Slam champion remembered experimenting with her mother Oracene’s makeup, which sparked her fascination with beauty products.
“My earliest beauty memory has to do with my mom. She wore red lipstick back then and still does now. I remember playing in her makeup as a kid,”Williams said.
Serena Williams Reflects on Her Unique Makeup Choices as a Tennis Pro
Despite the challenges, Serena Williams never hesitated to showcase her fashion sense and makeup skills on the tennis court. From jean skirts to leopard-print dresses, she was known as one of the most stylish players in the sport.
During her interview with Byrdie, the former World No. 1 emphasized the distinction between a tennis player wearing makeup and an athlete from a different sport. Although she enjoyed wearing makeup during her matches, Williams had to make several modifications to her routine to ensure it did not impact her performance.
“Showing up [like that] was great for me. Tennis is different than other sports. Sprinters and gymnasts, for example, can wear a full face of makeup. With tennis, you can play for three hours and have sweat pouring down your face. So I had to find little ways to enhance my features. It started with the beads—that was a way to express myself. From there, I leaned into eyeliner and lipstick,”Williams said.
