Danielle Collins has expressed her adoration for her beloved pet by sharing a glimpse of Quincy’s adventures at the 2024 Miami Open.
Despite facing tough competition at her home tournament, Collins’s fairytale run ended with a victory in the Miami Open final. She defeated last year’s runner-up Elena Rybakina 7-5, 6-3 to secure her first WTA 1000 title. This achievement holds even more significance as it was accomplished in her final year on the tour.
Despite her impressive win, Danielle Collins jokingly declared her dog Quincy as the true star of the Miami Open. She expressed her love for her furry companion and shared a delightful video montage of his adventures at the tournament, including getting cuddled and scratched, chasing after a tennis ball, and even pulling the 30-year-old along a hallway.
“Just wanted to do a very quick PSA! This year’s Miami Open MVP goes to my very handsome, very sophisticated, smart, loving, charismatic, ball of energy, my favorite son… Mister Q! Quincy, I don’t know what I would do without you. I love you sir!! 🏆⭐️✨💫,”she captioned her Instagram post.
Collins’ strong connection with her pet dog was clear when she shared that Quincy closely watched her matches at the Miami Open and was noticeably bewildered when she wasn’t at home.
“Quincy is watching, and he is tuned in, and we have videos of him watching matches and being so confused why, like, the ball and mom and why we are not there with him,”Danielle Collins said in a press conference after her semifinal win.
The American comically hurriedly concluded her press conference, revealing that she had to go retrieve Quincy from “daycare.”
“So he will be very happy to get — hopefully we can get out of here in time to pick him up. I’ve got to get out of here, guys. I have got to pick up my dog from daycare,”she added.
Danielle Collins on Retirement Plans: “Personal and Emotional Decision”After Miami Open Win
Danielle Collins declared that she will retire after the 2024 season following her departure from the Australian Open in January. She stated her intention to focus on starting a family.
Despite her success at the Miami Open, the American made it clear that she will not change her mind about retiring, as she continues to face personal and emotional challenges related to her health.
“No, I’m not (smiling). Thank you, though. I feel like all of these questions are coming from such a good place, because I feel like a lot of people would like to continue seeing me play well,”Danielle Collins said in her post-match press conference.
“But like I said, I have some health challenges, and with those health challenges, it makes things for me away from the court a little more difficult. I hope everyone can respect that. It’s a very emotional and personal thing. Yeah,”she added.
As she prepares for the claycourt season, Danielle Collins will strive to maintain her impressive performance. She will begin her Charleston Open journey in the first round of the WTA 500 event against Paula Badosa.
