Why “Hit Man”is My Top Film of 2024
My favorite film of the year 2024 has to be Hit Man, directed by the talented Richard Linklater. Released on Netflix, this quirky romantic comedy features stellar performances by Glen Powell and Adria Arjona, who portray the captivating characters of Gary/Ron and Madison. From beginning to end, the film offers a delightful blend of humor and heartfelt moments that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Unmatched Chemistry Between Powell and Arjona
The undeniable chemistry shared by Arjona and Powell has left fans yearning for more collaborations. Recently, they participated in an insightful interview with Interview Magazine, where they discussed their experiences working together. In the interview, Powell lauded Arjona’s talent, expressing a desire to collaborate repeatedly. His admiration for her craft was evident, highlighting the special dynamic they share.
“I’ve seen you fit into things of every size and scope, and there’s a reason why everyone is clamoring to have you in their movie at a studio level. But I also think it’s very refreshing to watch something like this,” Powell noted. “If this movie was made by a studio, it would be completely devoid of heart and all the things that are magical about it. It’s so interesting how movies are lightning in a bottle and about the investment of the actors. It’s one of the reasons I enjoyed working with you so much and why I would like to do it over and over again for the rest of time.”
Arjona responded enthusiastically to Powell’s comments, stating, “Yes please, Glen! You work very similarly to me. You just have to commit to the world.” This exchange inspired me to ask Arjona about their potential future collaborations during my interview with her for Los Frikis. She assured me, “We will, we have to,” playfully acknowledging my jest about holding her and Powell to their promise. “I love him dearly. And thank you for liking Hit Man that much, I love that movie,” she added.
A Beautifully Crafted Romantic Comedy
I truly meant every word I shared with Arjona regarding Hit Man. It’s undoubtedly one of my all-time favorites, especially for this year. The film adeptly uses Madison, portrayed by Arjona, to elevate Gary Johnson’s character arc, showcasing a seamless integration of their roles. The captivating back-and-forth between Powell and Arjona is a testament to their craft, making every scene feel authentic and engaging.
This is particularly evident in memorable scenes, like the iconic Notes App interaction, which has resonated with audiences long after the credits rolled. Honestly, I could watch Powell and Arjona in their clever exchanges forever. The warmth they share reflects a genuine enjoyment in their collaboration, reminiscent of classic pairings from the ’90s, such as Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan or Richard Gere and Julia Roberts. Their dynamics created a cinematic charm that many of us miss.
Looking Forward to Their Future Projects
If Glen Powell and Adria Arjona are committed to working together more in the future, I’ll be cheering them on with every project they undertake. After all, Arjona humorously promised that their next film could “fix” me. I’m eagerly waiting to see what they create together next!
