
MSI has unveiled how users of their X870 and X870E motherboards can leverage proprietary features to enhance their gaming experiences significantly.
Enhancing Ryzen 9 9950X3D Performance with MSI’s BIOS Features
The AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D stands as a frontrunner among gaming and productivity processors, delivering impressive performance without the need for extensive modifications. Nonetheless, users can tap into its full potential by optimizing both hardware and software settings.
According to MSI, optimal setups can lead to performance enhancements on their 800-series motherboards, specifically the X870 and X870E models. They recommend updating to the latest BIOS and chipset drivers, which can potentially yield as much as a 10% performance improvement. However, it is essential to note that these gains may vary depending on the specific game or application being used.

The latest BIOS version 1A27, accompanied by Chipset Driver 7.01.08.129, is reported to enhance performance by 10% in games like Metro Exodus, 8% in Far Cry 6, and 2% in Shadow of the Tomb Raider. While these benchmarks come directly from MSI, users should understand that individual outcomes may differ based on their unique system configurations.
Furthermore, it is advisable to install the AMD Application Compatibility Database driver included in the chipset driver package, particularly for those operating on AGESA 1.2.0.3 BIOS versions, as it can resolve “unknown device”notifications in the Device Manager. Users may also take advantage of MSI’s suite of tools available in the BIOS, including features like Memory Try It!, High-Efficiency Mode, and X3D Gaming Mode, which can contribute to improved performance.

The Memory Try It and High-Efficiency Mode are specifically targeted at memory optimization, enhancing timing and speed. In contrast, the X3D Gaming Mode focuses on optimizing CPU performance. MSI has outlined the workings of these features extensively, allowing users to achieve substantial performance strides. For example, utilizing these enhancements can result in performance increases of up to 14.5% in Monster Hunter Wilds and approximately 6% in Far Cry 6 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, compared to the default memory speed of 4800 MT/s for 16 GB x2 configurations.

Interestingly, even in comparison to a memory speed of 7200 MT/s, the enhancements achieved through the BIOS adjustments can yield an 8% improvement in performance for Monster Hunter Wilds. It’s worth noting, however, that some titles, such as Black Myth: Wukong and RDR2, may not respond positively to these new settings. Nonetheless, slight performance boosts can still be seen in other games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Metro Exodus.
