MSI MAG GLS 80 Plus Gold Power Supply Units Earn Cybenetics “Platinum” Certification, Ideal for Mainstream PC Builders

MSI’s latest GLS series of power supply units (PSUs) have received notable recognition from Cybenetics, achieving a power efficiency rating that exceeds their official classification.

Cybenetics Awards MSI’s GLS Series a “Platinum”Efficiency Rating

Recently unveiled, the MSI MAG GLS series PSUs target mainstream builders and come equipped with cutting-edge features like ATX 3.1, PCIe 5.1, and 12V-2×6 support. Serving as an evolution from MSI’s previous MAG GL series introduced in 2024, the GLS lineup offers various wattage options: 1000W, 850W, 750W, and 650W. A key enhancement in this new series is its quieter operation, as suggested by the “S”in GLS, which likely stands for “Silent.”

Initially classified with an 80 Plus Gold rating, the GLS series PSUs have now been re-evaluated by Cybenetics and certified with a prestigious “Platinum”rating. This shift signifies a substantial improvement over their original classification. According to Cybenetics, the criteria to achieve this “Platinum”efficiency rating include:

  • Overall Efficiency: ≥89% to <91%
  • Power Factor: ≥0.975
  • 5VSB Efficiency: >76%
  • Vampire Power: <0.16W
  • 5VSB Efficiency details:
    • >45% with ≤0.225W load (2013 ErP Lot 6)
    • >45% with ≤0.45W load (2010 ErP Lot 6)
    • >75% with ≤2.75W load (CEC & 2014 ErP Lot 3)
    • >75% with ≤7.5W load (CEC & 2014 ErP Lot 3)

In contrast, the specifications for achieving the “Gold”rating are somewhat lower:

  • Overall Efficiency: ≥87% to <89%
  • Power Factor: ≥0.970
  • 5VSB Efficiency: >75%
  • Vampire Power: <0.19W
  • 5VSB Efficiency details:
    • >45% with ≤0.225W load (2013 ErP Lot 6)
    • >45% with ≤0.45W load (2010 ErP Lot 6)
    • >75% with ≤2.75W load (CEC & 2014 ErP Lot 3)
    • >75% with ≤7.5W load (CEC & 2014 ErP Lot 3)

At the upper echelon of Cybenetics ratings lies the “Diamond”category, currently with no PSUs listed. Impressively, MSI boasts one “Titanium”certified PSU, the MEG Ai1600T PCIe5, alongside 10 “Platinum”and 11 “Gold”rated units within their portfolio.

In terms of pricing, the MSI MAG GLS series offers competitive options that align well with the latest ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1 standards. Currently, the 1000W model is priced at $189.99, the 850W unit is available for $149.99, the 750W PSU costs $129.99, and finally, the 650W model retails for $89.99. Each unit features a fully modular design and holds a “Platinum”certification, ensuring efficient power delivery along with a robust 10-year warranty.
