MSI Launches RTX 5070 Ti Featuring Concealed 16-Pin Connector Beneath Removable Backplate

MSI has recently unveiled an innovative design for its custom RTX 5070 Ti graphics card, cleverly concealing the crucial 16-pin power connector. This design not only enhances aesthetics but addresses a common technical issue that has plagued similar components.

A Game-Changing Design: RTX 5070 Ti Connector Concealed for Better Performance

One significant concern with traditional GPUs is the risk of burnt and melted 16-pin power connectors, often caused by a sharp cable bend near the connector. Manufacturers recommend maintaining a clearance of at least 35mm to prevent lose connections that can result in overheating. Nevertheless, achieving this clearance can pose a challenge in many setups, and other contributing factors can also lead to connector failures.

In a bid to address these significant concerns, MSI has implemented an innovative solution. A video from the Japanese YouTuber @harucan5492 highlights this unique design for the RTX 5070 Ti, where the 16-pin power connector is strategically placed deep within the GPU’s heatsink, far removed from the edge of the PCB, where connectors are typically found.

In this design, the connector is situated about three inches inside the heatsink, beneath a removable backplate. This allows users to connect the cable seamlessly and then reattach the backplate, resulting in a neat configuration free from cable bends that could compromise the power supply’s integrity.

This innovative adaptation bears resemblance to the MSI GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Ventus edition, featuring a sleek all-white look. While specific model details and clock speeds remain undisclosed, the focus of this design is evidently on preventing cable bends, promoting better performance and reliability. It remains to be seen when this innovative design will hit the mainstream market, as details regarding its pricing and availability are yet to be confirmed.
