In a significant shift from traditional warranty practices, MSI is now offering comprehensive coverage that extends beyond the power supply unit (PSU) itself, ensuring protection for affected hardware as well.
MSI China Introduces Enhanced Warranty Policy for PSUs
MSI has announced a groundbreaking update to its warranty coverage, now allowing customers to receive compensation not only for faulty power supplies but also for any damage caused to other PC components. This new approach marks a departure from the standard return merchandise authorization (RMA) processes typically associated with hardware failures.
Typically, under standard warranty terms, a customer would only receive a replacement power supply when their unit fails. However, MSI China is setting a new precedent by providing a broader range of compensation options for any hardware that may be adversely affected due to issues with MSI’s Gold, Platinum, or Titanium PSUs. The company revealed this policy on Bilibili, highlighting its commitment to customer satisfaction.
Compensation Plans Offered by MSI
MSI has outlined five distinct compensation plans to address any damage resulting from the failure of their power supplies:
- Replacement of the affected component with an identical unit
- Replacement of entire PC hardware with a like model (if available)
- Full reimbursement (100%) within the first year of warranty
- Ninety percent reimbursement for purchases made between the second and third year
- Seventy-five percent reimbursement from the fourth year up to the end of the warranty period

To ensure thorough investigations, MSI will collaborate with a third-party repair service to assess whether the damage to PC components was indeed caused by a malfunctioning MSI power supply. If proven, the compensation outlined in one of the five plans will be enacted. This policy not only enhances consumer confidence but also surpasses the warranty offerings commonly found with pre-built gaming systems. Given the potential for damage stemming from defective power supplies, users of MSI Gold-rated units and higher can rest assured about the integrity of their systems.
It’s important to note that while this innovative policy significantly enhances consumer protection, it is currently applicable only within China. This move reflects MSI’s confidence in the reliability of its premium power supply lines, which typically come with a 10-year warranty. Essentially, this new program provides a decade of coverage for other hardware, contingent upon the PSU being the point of failure.
