Last month, MSI unveiled its latest motherboard, paving the way for its entry into the enthusiast compact market. The anticipation is building for the release of the MPG X870I EDGE TI EVO WIFI, which promises to deliver impressive features aimed at gamers and overclocking enthusiasts.
MSI Introduces MPG X870I EDGE TI EVO: High Performance with 64 MB BIOS and Advanced Features
In our previous report, we highlighted two outstanding offerings from MSI’s 800-series motherboards tailored for avid gamers and overclockers. While the ATX model, the MAG X870E Tomahawk MAX PZ, is set for launch, MSI has discreetly introduced the compact MPG X870I EDGE TI EVO WIFI. This motherboard supports AMD’s upcoming high-performance processors, which we will explore shortly.

The MPG X870I EDGE TI EVO is engineered with a robust VRM, featuring an 8+2+1 SPS configuration with 110A power phases. These specifications allow for exceptional overclocking potential for both CPU and DRAM. With two DIMM slots, the motherboard supports speeds of up to a remarkable 10, 000 MT/s under a single DIMM per channel (1DPC 1R) setup. Although the maximum frequency decreases to about 8000 MT/s with a dual-rank (1DPC 2R) configuration, enthusiasts might achieve even higher speeds with some tweaking.

In competition with offerings like ASUS’s B850M AYW Gaming OC, which recently achieved 10, 600 MT/s using a dual 24 GB DDR5 configuration, MSI’s MPG X870I should provide similar performance benchmarks. For graphics, the motherboard includes a single PCIe 5.0 x16 slot along with a dedicated FP card slot positioned near the DIMM slots. The board features a unique 5-in-1 XPANDER card that enables additional storage options, including multiple M.2 and SATA ports. Natively, it comes equipped with three M.2 slots and two SATA ports.
One of the standout features of the MPG X870I EDGE TI EVO is its powerful 64 MB BIOS. This enhancement aligns with reports suggesting that motherboard manufacturers are adopting larger BIOS chips to facilitate support for AMD’s anticipated Zen 6 architecture. Interestingly, some reports contend that motherboards equipped with a 32 MB BIOS will also support the Zen 6 processors, while maintaining compatibility with the existing Zen 4 series.
The motherboard excels in connectivity offerings, integrating the latest WiFi 7 technology, Bluetooth 5.4, and a high-speed 5G LAN port. A range of USB ports is also available, featuring 10 Gbps Type A ports alongside a USB4 port for rapid data transfers. Moreover, the EZ Debug LEDs assist with troubleshooting during setup and operation. Currently, MSI has yet to disclose any details regarding the availability and pricing of the MPG X870I EDGE TI EVO WIFI, and enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the release of the MAG X870E Tomahawk MAX PZ.
