MSI has officially launched a new BIOS update for its array of 800-series chipset motherboards, significantly enhancing memory compatibility for users. This recent update, dubbed AGESA Combo PI-1.2.0.3e, promises to streamline performance and expand device capabilities.

Enhanced Memory Support and New CPU Compatibility with AGESA 1.2.0.3e

Just days ago, MSI discreetly released a notable BIOS update designed for select 800-series motherboards, improving overall memory compatibility and integrating support for a new AMD CPU. The improved BIOS version, AGESA Combo PI-1.2.0.3e, is tailored for extensive optimizations across applicable systems.

According to their official press release, this update will enhance support for all AM5 motherboards, covering both 800 and 600 series chipsets, including budget-friendly options like the A620. With this release, MSI aims to provide its customers improved DRAM capabilities.

This update allows users to fully utilize all four DIMM slots with 64 GB memory modules, achieving improved system stability. While some models have previously demonstrated the ability to operate in a 64GB x4 configuration, MSI assures users that overclocking can be accomplished at speeds up to 6000 MT/s, and even 6400 MT/s under certain conditions.

“MSI motherboards have been optimized for overclocking large-capacity DRAM—compatible with DRAM chips from Micron, Hynix, and Samsung. Even with four 64GB DRAM fully installed, the system can still achieve a stable overclocking speed of 6000 MT/s, and even up to 6400 MT/s.”

MSI has also provided visuals showcasing successful configurations where its motherboards operate seamlessly with 256 GB memory. For instance, a setup featuring the Ryzen 7 9800X3D on a MAG B850M MORTAR Wi-Fi effortlessly handles 256 GB of memory at a speed of 6400 MT/s with timings of CL36-44-44-96. This indicates that higher-end models may achieve even greater stability with similar configurations.

Additionally, the latest BIOS update introduces compatibility with a new AMD CPU. Although MSI has not explicitly confirmed the model, speculation suggests it is the AMD Ryzen 7 9700F—AMD’s inaugural 9000F model, which lacks integrated graphics. Importantly, this BIOS version also establishes a groundwork for the anticipated Ryzen 9000G APUs.
