NVIDIA’s key board partner, MSI, has officially acknowledged the anticipated shortage of RTX 50 series graphics cards, which is likely to significantly impact their availability on the day of launch.
MSI Confirms Limited Supply of RTX 50 Series GPUs on Launch Day—January 30th
The RTX 50 series, including the highly sought-after RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 models, is set to officially launch on January 30th, just five days away. However, MSI has informed potential buyers that stock will be critically limited. Recent reports from multiple sources have indicated that these graphics cards will not be readily available, with MSI’s announcement reinforcing this troubling news.

As previously discussed, the shortage has been attributed to communication issues between NVIDIA and its board partners, which resulted in numerous add-in board (AIB) manufacturers receiving insufficient chip allocations for their custom GPU versions. Disturbingly, some retailers may only offer the RTX 5090 in very limited quantities. Prices have already begun to surge in certain markets, with reports indicating that the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 could reach prices double the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP).

Although there are indications that supply may improve in February, the increase is expected to be gradual. Consumers eager to purchase an RTX 50 series card at launch may struggle to find them, given that NVIDIA appears to be selective about how these GPUs will be distributed among retailers. Compounding this issue, the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 models also face potential premium pricing, particularly in the European Union, which may further diminish their price-to-performance appeal.
The situation regarding the RTX 5070 variants also remains uncertain. The RTX 5070 Ti is anticipated to launch on February 20th, but no definitive insights into its availability have surfaced at this time.
