MSI has recently released the initial benchmarks for the new MSI Claw 8 AI+, demonstrating a remarkable performance boost of 20% compared to the ROG Ally X within the same power consumption parameters. This new gaming handheld is set to launch in the upcoming weeks, and the anticipation surrounding its capabilities continues to grow.
Performance Metrics Showcase Significant Advantages of MSI Claw 8 AI+
The benchmarking data reveals that the MSI Claw 8 AI+ outshines its competitor in numerous gaming scenarios. Notably, it can deliver an astonishing performance increase of up to 113% in Metro 2033, while maintaining an average improvement of 20% across approximately two dozen games tested. For a clearer perspective, renowned tech commentator ETA Prime has posted an official MSI slide, contrasting the Claw 8 AI+ with the leading handheld device currently, the ROG Ally X.
Though we should consider that these figures stem from MSI’s own testing, which may yield slightly different results under consumer use, the expectation remains that the Claw 8 AI+ will outclass the ROG Ally X. This is primarily attributed to its underlying technology, featuring the advanced Intel Lunar Lake chip, in contrast to the ROG’s Ryzen Z1 Extreme based on AMD’s Zen 4 architecture. Specifically, the Claw 8 AI+ incorporates the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V, an 8-core/8-thread APU that promises significant processing power.

The processor’s benchmark indicates a performance at 17W, with the flexibility to adjust between 8W and 30W. It’s important to note that performance metrics were recorded with lower graphical settings and enhancements via technologies like Xess or FSR in their performance modes. When contrasted with the 17W performance of the Ally X, the Claw 8 AI+ consistently demonstrates a 20% performance gain on average, while achieving the staggering 113% lead in Metro 2033.
