MSI Afterburner Gains Unofficial Support for Radeon RX 9000 GPUs
While MSI has yet to officially announce support for RDNA GPUs in its popular Afterburner software, independent developer, Unwinder, has taken the initiative to incorporate this functionality. This move allows users of AMD’s Radeon RX 9000 series GPUs to enjoy enhanced control and customization features.
The Developers Behind the Initiative
About two weeks ago, Unwinder, the lead developer of MSI Afterburner, rolled out a beta version that introduced support for various GPU models. Crucially, this support is labeled as “unofficial”.According to the release notes, although MSI has not produced any custom editions for RX 9000 graphics cards, the demand for models like the RX 9070 XT prompted this independent addition.
As I promised some time ago, today we launch new beta of MSI Afterburner with AMD RDNA4 GPU architecture support. I’d like to explicitly mention one more time, that MSI do not sell any RDNA4 based graphics cards, so support for this GPU family inside the application is completely unofficial.

Enhanced Customization for RX 9000 Owners
Despite the unofficial nature of the support, users of the RX 9000 series can now leverage MSI Afterburner for various enhancements. These include overclocking the GPU, adjusting fan curves, and making other performance tweaks. MSI Afterburner remains one of the go-to tools for GPU enthusiasts, delivering essential monitoring features such as real-time temperature readings, GPU load, and VRAM usage statistics.
Accessing the Latest Beta Build
The new version of MSI Afterburner, which includes this unofficial support, is not available on MSI’s official site. Instead, it can be downloaded from Guru3D. Users can find MSI Afterburner 4.6.6 Beta 6 Build 16591 and RTS Setup 7.3.7 Beta 7 Build 28220 on this platform. This update also includes compatibility for future NVIDIA RTX 500 series GPUs, hinting at upcoming models like the GeForce RTX 5050 for desktops and laptops.
Notable Additions and Fixes
The latest build boasts several enhancements, including:
- Extended memory clock overclocking range of +3000 MHz for NVIDIA RTX 5000 series, previously available as a separate download.
- Integration of additional future NVIDIA RTX 5000 series GPUs into the hardware database.
- Inclusion of unofficial support for the AMD RDNA4 GPU family.
- Exclusion of preemptive sleep delay from the cumulative polling time on Overdrive8 capable graphics cards, aiding beginner users.
- Resolution of missing CPU Power sensor on the Intel Arrow Lake CPU family.
- Upgrade of RivaTuner Statistics Server to v7.3.7 beta 7.
