Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord Unveils Exciting Expansion Featuring Vikings and Naval Warfare
TaleWorlds Entertainment continues to build upon the expansive world of Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, which first entered early access for PC in 2020 and celebrated its full release encompassing console platforms in 2022. The highly anticipated first expansion, set to introduce a host of new features, will transport players to a Viking-inspired region and will bring naval combat into play.
Introducing Naval Adventures and the Nords
With the expansion, a northern territory of Calradia will come to life, serving as the homeland for the Nords—renowned as “legendary seafarers and masters of close-quarters combat.” Players will have the opportunity to delve into this new area where they can trade resources, recruit formidable warriors, join the Nord ranks, or oppose their dominance.
New Gameplay Features and Mechanics
The expansion promises an exhilarating experience on the high seas, allowing players to command fleets and engage in enhanced trade, warfare, and diplomatic interactions. Key features include:
- A cinematic campaign that immerses players in a rich narrative.
- A sophisticated weather system that affects gameplay.
- Large-scale naval battles and strategic maritime blockades.
- Amphibious sieges that mix land and sea warfare.
- The addition of a pirate confederacy for even more challenges.
- New musical scores to enhance the gaming atmosphere.
Innovative Fleet-Building Mechanics
The studio has outlined an exciting fleet-building mechanic that allows players to select from 18 different ship types inspired by historical vessels. These ships feature distinctive handling influenced by realistic wind and wave physics. Moreover, players can customize their ships with various additions, including:
- Siege engines
- Cargo holds
- Sails
- Rams
Players can also seize ships and unique figureheads during naval confrontations, adding depth to the overall gameplay experience.
Release Date and Platforms
The War Sails expansion for Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is slated for release on June 17, 2025. It will be available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, notably excluding last-generation consoles despite the base game’s availability on them.
