Moon Jae-in’s Family: Discover His Marriage and Details Following His Daughter’s DUI Incident

On October 5, 2024, Moon Da-hye, the daughter of former South Korean President Moon Jae-in, was involved in a serious incident after crashing her vehicle into a taxi while allegedly under the influence of alcohol. As reported by Yonhap News, her blood alcohol concentration (BAC) registered over 0.14%, which could result in the suspension of her driving privileges and significant legal repercussions.

The collision, which occurred in the Itaewon district of Seoul around 2:51 AM, left the taxi driver injured, prompting the police to arrest Moon Da-hye the same day. Authorities indicated that she was changing lanes when the accident took place.

Moon Da-hye faces charges of driving while intoxicated and is scheduled for questioning at the Yongsan Police Station on October 7, 2024. According to Maeil Kyungjae News, the 41-year-old has also been previously interrogated regarding her ex-husband’s involvement in alleged preferential hiring at Thai Star Jet Airlines.

To provide context, Moon Jae-in held the position of South Korea’s 12th President from 2017 until 2022. He is married to classical singer Kim Jung-sook, and the couple has two children, Moon Da-hye and Moon Joon-yong.

Investigation Into Moon Da-hye Linked to Former Husband’s Alleged Bribery

In relation to the case surrounding her former husband, Mr. Seo, prosecutors have asserted that he received favorable employment at Thai Jet Air due to the influence of ex-Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Sang-jik, who became chairman of the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency in March 2018. According to Maeil Kyungjae News, Moon Da-hye and her husband relocated to Thailand in 2018 after his appointment to oversee the airline based there.

Moreover, prosecutors are examining the potential involvement of former President Moon Jae-in in a related bribery investigation, alleging that his son-in-law received preferential treatment at T’way Air (also known as Thai Jet Air) in exchange for assisting the airline’s founder in securing a substantial government role.

On August 30, 2024, investigators from the Jeonju District Prosecutor’s Office conducted searches at Moon Da-hye’s residence, an action that took place four years after claims were made regarding her then-husband, Mr. Seo.

The implications of Moon Da-hye’s DUI arrest have intensified her legal troubles, as she is already entangled in allegations involving her ex-spouse.
