If you’re diving into the world of Monster Hunter Wilds, prepare for an exhilarating experience filled with thrilling hunts. From confronting apex predators such as the formidable Rey Dau to battling aerial beasts like the infamous Rathalos, there’s no shortage of action. However, you may encounter an unexpected challenge: the intrusion of other monsters during your primary hunt.
These disruptive creatures can complicate your objectives, especially since while they might engage your target or engage in turf wars given the right conditions, this can lead to chaotic battles that are difficult to manage, particularly in cramped environments or against more powerful foes. This guide will provide you with effective strategies for distracting and luring away these uninvited monsters, allowing you to focus on your intended quarry.
Effective Use of Dung Pods and Large Dung Pods

To successfully divert unwanted monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds, incorporating Dung Pods and the newly added Large Dung Pods into your strategy is crucial. Ensure that they are loaded into your item pouch before setting out on your hunt, and equip them using the item bar or your assigned shortcut from the radial menu.
Keep in mind that Dung Pods may not be effective against certain monsters. In these instances, it’s usually best to be patient and wait for the other monster to vacate the area, which they typically do after some time.

Here’s the key distinction: Regular Dung Pods are tailored to send a single monster running, whereas Large Dung Pods target herds, dispersing multiple monsters simultaneously. Utilize the Large Dung Pod effectively by deploying it at the center of a pack to ensure maximum impact. It’s particularly beneficial when facing groups such as Doshaguma or Hirabami, or even flocks of Yian Kut-Ku.
When dealing with Hirabami, failure to separate them could result in a challenging fight as they swarm together, making individual targeting nearly impossible.
Crafting Dung Pods and Large Dung Pods
Creating Dung Pods is straightforward. While specific farming locations are not defined, you can discover them throughout various regions during your hunts and expeditions. Keep an eye out for Dung Pods in diverse locales as you explore. Additionally, Rolled-up Dung, essential for crafting, can often be obtained from Dung Beetles which are prevalent across many areas, including the Windward Plains.

Large Dung Pods necessitate both Dung and Nitroshrooms. Notably, you can find Nitroshrooms scattered throughout the Scarlet Forest, as illustrated in the image above.
Bear in mind that your inventory can hold only up to five Large Dung Pods at a time, which should prove sufficient, as they are best suited for specific scenarios rather than frequent use in the Wilds.
Crafting and Employing the Luring Pod

Another useful tool at your disposal is the Luring Pod, specifically designed to attract monsters to your position. The mechanics of this item are distinct from Dung Pods, as it serves an opposite purpose.
Luring Pods are particularly effective for enticing Tier 1 or 2 monsters, enabling them to engage larger foes, thereby providing you with the opportunity to create a tactical diversion or pause during your hunt. For example, during the encounter with Jin Dahaad, you will have the chance to lure a pack of Hirabami, maintaining attention on Jin Dahaad while you prepare for the fight.
If a chaotic brawl is what you seek, don’t hesitate to deploy a Luring Pod at a nearby monster to facilitate a temporary melee. Often, there are strategic advantages in attracting monsters to a designated area rather than causing them to flee entirely.
