Overview of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PC Release
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 debuted on PC, receiving a mixed response from players.
- Approximately 45% of the 1, 600+ reviews on Steam have been negative.
- Common complaints include graphical errors, system crashes, and various performance challenges.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has arrived on PC amidst a flurry of mixed reviews, primarily due to notable performance issues that have detracted from the overall player experience. Released on January 30, the anticipated sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales became available on both Steam and the Epic Games Store, but many fans have expressed their disappointment over its performance. Reports of crashes, awkward graphical bugs, and subpar performance have marred its launch.
In contrast to the smooth launches enjoyed by Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PC in 2022 — the former achieving an “overwhelmingly positive”status — this latest addition from Insomniac Games has faced an unusual start. Following its announcement for PC in October, both Insomniac and PlayStation maintained a low profile regarding the port, offering minimal marketing and no pre-orders. Such secrecy raised considerable concerns among fans, and unfortunately, their fears have been validated as numerous performance issues plague the game.
Discontent Among Players Over PC Performance
The system specifications for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 vary significantly, depending on the quality of experience players seek. For those aiming for ultra settings with ray tracing, a robust configuration, including an RTX 4090 alongside either an Intel i9-12900K or an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, is recommended. However, even users with high-end setups are facing serious gameplay issues. Out of over 1, 600 reviews, only 55% are favorable, leading to a designation of “mixed”reviews on Steam. The multitude of negative feedback highlights numerous graphical glitches and frequent crashes, which persist despite having adequate system requirements.

Despite evident graphical shortcomings and performance concerns that demand attention in upcoming updates, the PC version of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 boasts several distinctive features unavailable on the PlayStation 5. These enhancements include an unlocked framerate, allowing for a refresh rate surpassing the conventional 60 FPS, and refined ray-tracing reflections that further amplify the game’s visually stunning environment. Support for ultra-wide monitor setups, including resolutions of 16:9, 16:10, 21:9, 32:9, and 48:9, proves advantageous for users with NVIDIA Surround or AMD Eyefinity technology.

Furthermore, the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 coincides with PlayStation launching new incentives tailored for PC gamers. In response to previous backlash regarding the mandatory PSN account linkage for several titles, the publisher is now encouraging players to connect their PSN and Steam accounts for select games, including Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnarok, and The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered. Linking these accounts will unlock in-game rewards, such as early access to the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and the Miles Morales 2099 Suit, which could entice hesitant players to engage with the game despite existing performance frustrations.
