The groundbreaking MS-S1 Max Mini is poised to be the first mini PC equipped with the cutting-edge USB4 version 2 port, which provides an impressive 80 Gbps of bandwidth. Additionally, it includes a full-size PCIe x16 slot designed specifically for graphics card installation.
Minisforum Introduces the Ryzen AI Max+395-Powered MS-S1 Max Mini: A High-Performance AI Workstation with Advanced Power and Connectivity
Reputable mini PC manufacturer Minisforum has launched an innovative AI workstation, the MS-S1 Max Mini AI Workstation. This model represents the brand’s most powerful mini PC to date, featuring the advanced Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor, which incorporates 16 Zen 5 cores alongside simultaneous multithreading (SMT), ensuring top-tier performance for both gaming and productivity tasks. The unit is engineered to reach a peak power of 160W, enabling it to optimize performance according to workload demands.
The compact design of the MS-S1 Max, coming in at just 3.2 liters, does not compromise on performance. It offers versatile 2U rack mounting options and is furnished with cutting-edge integrated graphics, namely the Radeon 8060S. Notably, the chassis accommodates dedicated GPUs via its PCIe x16 slot, although the specific clearance for graphics cards remains unspecified—suggesting compatibility primarily with low-profile, entry-level options. To support these performance capabilities, the unit incorporates a robust 320W power supply.

One of the standout features of the MS-S1 Max is its user-friendly slide-out pull design, which allows for easy hardware access and maintenance without the need for tools. The workstation employs a dual-fan cooling system complemented by six heat pipes to efficiently manage thermal output, ensuring sustained performance and preventing overheating.
Furthermore, the MS-S1 Max is equipped with a USB4 V2 interface that unlocks a formidable 80 Gbps bandwidth, enabling users to take advantage of uncompressed visual outputs at elevated resolutions and refresh rates. When compared to its predecessor, the previous USB4 versions, this updated interface doubles the bandwidth, making it ideal for modern external GPUs, such as the ASUS ROG XG Mobile 2025 and Razer Core X V2. However, it’s essential to note that speeds will not match those offered by PCIe 4.0 or 5.0 x16 interfaces.
Engineered for AI-intensive tasks, the MS-S1 Max integrates a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) utilizing the Strix Halo chip, which boasts up to 50 TOPS for AI workloads and can achieve an overall AI performance up to 126 TOPS. This mini PC is capable of handling large AI models, including those with up to 109 billion parameters, making it a powerful asset for complex computing tasks while excelling in extensive CPU operations.
Set to hit the market in the latter half of 2025, details regarding pricing have yet to be disclosed.
