The Turbulent Marriage of FT Island’s Choi Minhwan and Former LABOUM’s Yulhee: A Revealing Insight
Choi Minhwan of FT Island has disclosed the numerous challenges that led to his separation from Yulhee, a former member of LABOUM, culminating in their divorce in December 2023. Reports suggest that the decision to end their marriage was mutual; however, the intricacies surrounding their split have ignited considerable public speculation.
Custody Disputes and Public Perception
Central to the conversations around their divorce is the custody of their three children—one son and twin daughters. Following the split, Minhwan secured custody, which resulted in Yulhee facing negative public sentiment and being unfairly portrayed as an inadequate mother.
In response to the backlash, Yulhee clarified her position through an October revelation, citing Minhwan’s frequent visits to adult establishments as a primary factor in their marital discord. This prompted her to initiate legal proceedings to challenge the custody decision made in favor of Minhwan.
A Career on Hold
Choi’s career took a hit as the scandal unfolded, including investigations into allegations of soliciting prostitution, which further fueled the media frenzy surrounding their separation.
New Revelations from Choi Minhwan
In an exclusive interview with Dispatch on January 13, 2024, Minhwan shed light on additional crises that contributed to the collapse of their marriage. He expressed concerns about Yulhee’s excessive sleeping habits, which he reported could last up to 20 hours a day, and pointed out that her lack of engagement with family matters was detrimental to their relationship.
Choi claimed, “Yulhee sleeps abnormally a lot. Sometimes, she sleeps 18 to 20 hours a day. If I bring it up to her, she gets really angry. And she (also) ran away from home,” linking her behaviors directly to their marital issues. He further noted her frequent absences, stating, “She’s left the house more than 20 times in five years (of marriage). Who can stand that?”
Shifting Blame and Additional Context
When questioned about Yulhee’s potential stress from caring for their three young children while he was serving in the military, Minhwan dismissed this notion. He clarified that they employed a nanny who assisted during the day, enabling him to focus on childcare in the evenings.
“When I was serving in the military, we hired a caregiver, who comes from 9 am to 4 pm. After my work, I took care of the kids. My mother also did the housework. I never asked Yulhee to cook dinner or do the dishes,” he explained.
The Final Straw
Prior to their official divorce in late 2023, the couple had briefly contemplated separation in 2021 but chose to reconcile. However, Minhwan indicated that a resurgence of issues in their marriage ensued, including Yulhee’s late-night outings and prolonged absences from home.
