Minecraft Launches Native PS5 Version – Free Access for PS4 Owners
In June, Mojang, the developer acquired by Microsoft, announced their endeavor to create a version of the popular sandbox game Minecraft specifically designed for Sony’s PlayStation 5 console. This week, Mojang officially declared that Minecraft for the PS5 is now accessible for purchase and download through the PlayStation Store.
According to a recent blog post by the developers, the native PS5 edition of Minecraft enhances the gaming experience with a significantly increased render distance. It also boasts the capacity to support 4K resolution along with frame rates of 60fps. Furthermore, players on the PS5 can enjoy cross-play compatibility with other versions of Minecraft.
For those who haven’t yet purchased the PS4 Bedrock Edition of Minecraft, the PS5 variant is priced at $19.99. However, gamers who have the PS4 version can download the PS5 version at no additional cost. Simply log into the PlayStation Store to access it. If you own a physical copy of the PS4 version, make sure to insert the disc into your PS5 console to claim your complimentary digital version.
While PS5 users can dive into the new Minecraft experience, Mojang has also announced that support for playing the game with the PlayStation VR headset will conclude in March 2025.
In conjunction with the launch of the PS5 edition, Mojang introduced a new free content update titled Bundles of Bravery. This update incorporates bundles into the game, which function like mobile inventory bags for players to manage their items more effectively.
Moreover, the update rolls out Hardcore mode for players on the Bedrock edition of Minecraft, which is now available on the PS5 as well. This mode amplifies survival difficulty, allowing for characters and worlds to face permanent loss. Additionally, Hardcore realms have been introduced, enabling up to 10 players to engage in the game under Hardcore conditions.
