Minecraft Guide: Locations to Find Armadillos and Their Uses

As Minecraft continues to evolve with frequent updates, many players find it challenging to stay informed about new and upcoming mobs being introduced into the game. For those unfamiliar with the term, “mobs”refers to mobile entities or objects, encompassing a variety of non-player characters (NPCs) that populate the game world.

Each mob serves a distinctive role, often assisting players by providing essential resources for survival, such as food or crafting materials. Among these new additions are Armadillos, recently introduced to the game. Below, we explore everything you need to know about this intriguing new mob and its functionalities.

The Armadillo is characterized by its timid nature; when threatened, it tends to curl into a ball or flee rather than confront danger. Unlike many aggressive mobs that pose a threat to players, the Armadillo is passive, making it an endearing addition to the game.

This fascinating mob was introduced following a community vote during the 2023 Minecraft Live Mob Vote, where it triumphed over other contenders like crabs and penguins. The Armadillo became a part of the Armored Paws Update, launched in April 2024.

Players can find Armadillos in several distinct biomes, including the Badlands, Eroded Badlands, Wooded Badlands, Savanna, Savanna Plateau, and Windswept Savanna. Given their skittish demeanor, encountering them may require patience and stealth. To transport these creatures back to a player’s base, a lead is necessary, much like with horses.

Once safely brought back, players can breed Armadillos using Spider Eyes, which will yield between 1 to 7 experience points. In addition, if a player or a tamed wolf were to defeat an adult Armadillo, they would receive 3 experience points, whereas killing a baby Armadillo results in no experience reward.

After players have kept an Armadillo for a while, it can also serve as a source of a vital crafting ingredient known as armadillo scute. This material is essential for crafting wolf armor. To obtain this scute, players first need to create a brush, which requires 1 feather, 1 Copper Ingot, and 1 Stick. By combining these items, players will craft a brush. It’s important to note that using the brush on an Armadillo will deplete 13 durability points from the brush, yielding 1 armadillo scute every few minutes. Additionally, the Armadillo often drops scutes at regular intervals during gameplay.
