Minecraft 1.21 update is adding a new way to get trident

In Minecraft’s 1.21 update, players can expect to encounter a new structure called trial chambers. These treacherous chambers are filled with deadly spawners, but the rewards for conquering them are worth the risk. Some of the valuable loot found inside includes breeze rods, used to craft wind charges, as well as the new mace weapon, golden apples, emeralds, and diamonds.

One of the intriguing finds for players is not a newly introduced item, but rather a reliable and repeatable method to obtain a rare older item. In the latest snapshots, Minecraft’s trial chambers contain new vault blocks that have a possibility of dropping tridents.

As this method of acquiring tridents is only available in trial chambers, it is crucial to know how to locate these structures. Fortunately, Mojang has simplified the process by introducing a new trade for a map to one through the Minecraft cartographer profession, similar to the trades for maps to ocean monuments and woodland mansions.

In order to obtain rewards, players must defeat multiple waves of mobs that are spawned by each trial spawner within the trial chamber. These waves may contain a vault key, which can be used to loot one of the several vaults within the chamber. The loot table for Minecraft’s vault block also has a rare chance of containing a trident.

As the drop is not definite and each vault can only be raided once, players may require maps to multiple trial chambers, which will promote exploration.

It is important to avoid entering a trial chamber while under the Bad Omen status effect in Minecraft, as this will result in the activation of the Trial Omen. This is a recently added effect that transforms the trial chamber into a more challenging and foreboding event. While these variants offer greater rewards, it is worth noting that the trident will not be included in the loot table and cannot be obtained in this manner.

How to obtain tridents in Minecraft

Since this fantastic new addition, the only means of obtaining tridents was through drowned enemies. Whenever a drowned is spawned in the game, there is a 6.25% or 15% likelihood, depending on the version (Java or Bedrock), that they will possess a trident.

The drop rates for tridents also differ between versions. In Java, there is an 8.5% chance for a trident-holding drowned to drop a trident, with an additional 1% chance for each level of looting, reaching a maximum of 11.5%. On Bedrock, the base drop rate for tridents is 25%, increasing by 4% for each level of looting, with a maximum chance of 37% at looting III.

Despite this, players were still at the mercy of RNG. As a result, tridents could not be obtained by zombies who had been converted to drowned, rendering Minecraft XP farms with zombie spawners useless as trident farms.
