“Min Hee-jin’s Plan: Transforming Her Feud with HYBE into a Documentary”
On September 27, 2024, former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin revealed her plans to create a documentary about her ongoing conflict with HYBE during the Hyundai Card Da Vinci Motel event held in Itaewon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, South Korea.
The event was organized by Hyundai Card, and she participated as a lecturer. She emphasized her intention to document her recent disputes with HYBE, stating, as translated by user @kchartsmaster:
“I have to win. I thought that I didn’t want to have to fight like this. I’m going to hold out as long as I can. I’m going to win. This is a rare event. I’m going to make a documentary. I’m going to make a documentary, and I’m going to tell the whole story.”
For those unfamiliar with the situation, Min Hee-jin and HYBE have been embroiled in a series of controversies since April 22, 2024. On that date, HYBE announced they had commenced an audit of its label subsidiary ADOR, subsequently demanding that Min Hee-jin resign. In response, the creative director accused HYBE of plagiarism and creative infringement.
As of now, Min Hee-jin has been removed from her position as CEO of ADOR, and HYBE has appointed Kim Ju-young as the new CEO of the sub-label.
Min Hee-jin Announced Plans to Sell Her House to Fund Legal Battle with HYBE
During the 2024 Hyundai Card Da Vinci Motel event, Min Hee-jin disclosed her decision to sell her house in order to finance her legal battle with HYBE Corporation. She stated that the lawsuit was estimated to cost 2.3 billion won, necessitating the sale of her home to cover these expenses. Min Hee-jin said, as translated by X user @kchartsmaster:
“The lawsuit cost is 2.3 billion won. I’m going to see my house because of these legal fees. I’ll have to sell it. If you don’t have money, you can’t sue. I’m grateful that I don’t have a husband and children, and I’m grateful that my parents are living well.”
Throughout her feud with HYBE Corporation, Min Hee-jin had previously organized a press conference to address her concerns and grievances. During the event, she expressed her disappointment in the public’s reaction that followed, confessing that it hurt to see her press conference turn into a meme on social media, which she described as “heartbreaking.”
At the Hyundai Card Da Vinci Motel event, former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin also showcased a demo of an unreleased song by NewJeans.
Min Hee-jin is a South Korean music producer, graphic designer, and art director, who previously served as the creative director at SM Entertainment. She is well-known for her significant role in shaping and branding several popular K-pop groups including Girls’ Generation, SHINee, f(x), EXO, and Red Velvet.
