Mike Francesa suggests harsh punishment for Jets if they pass on 2024 draft prospect: “If they don’t take him, they should be shot”
Despite a busy 2024 off-season, the New York Jets have managed to become one of the most well-rounded teams on paper.
Despite being considered a Super Bowl contender with Aaron Rodgers leading the team, the Jets’ hopes were dashed when their star quarterback suffered a torn Achilles in the season-opener against the Buffalo Bills. As a result, Rodgers was only able to play in five snaps throughout the entire 2023-2024 season.
During the off-season, the Jets made several important additions to their team, such as WR Mike Williams, OLB Hasson Reddick, OT Tyron Smith, OT Morgan Moses, OG John Simpson, DT Javon Kinlaw, and QB Tyrod Taylor.
Despite the Jets having few pressing needs, radio host Mike Francesca is advocating for the team to choose Notre Dame OT Joe Alt. On a recent episode of his podcast, BetRivers, Francesa stated that the Jets would be making a major mistake if they passed on Alt, should he be available.
“He’s probably gonna be there for the Jets. If the Jets get the good fortune of Alt being there at 10, if they don’t take him, they should be shot,”Francesca said.
“And if Alt’s there, pop the champagne corks, because that will be a home run. That will be a guy who will be a 10-year starter, maybe a 14-year starter — a multiple-time All-Pro. He is a can’t-miss player on the offensive line. Can’t miss. Right pedigree, right everything.”
It is predicted that Alt will be among the top offensive linemen selected in the 2024 NFL draft, possibly leading to his selection before the Jets’ 10th overall pick. If this occurs, the Jets may opt to choose the most talented player available, regardless of their position, such as a wide receiver or any other position.
Potential Trades for the New York Jets’ First-Round Pick
Given the current situation of the New York Jets, it is possible that they may consider trading down during the 2024 NFL Draft.
The New York Jets could potentially increase their draft capital if one of their top targets, such as WR Marvin Harrison Jr. or OT Joe Alt, is selected with the 10th overall pick by a team in need of a quarterback.
The next four teams in line after the Jets (the Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos, Las Vegas Raiders, and the New Orleans Saints) are all potential candidates to select a quarterback in this year’s draft. It is highly probable that the Jets will receive at least one trade offer from one of these teams in order to move up in the draft.
As the draft approaches, the Jets may consider trading back in order to acquire additional assists in a trade. As we approach the draft, we will gain a clearer understanding of the Jets’ potential plans with their 10th pick.
