Mike Florio presses Miami Dolphins to find their own Brock Purdy

Despite facing criticism from analysts and general managers, Brock Purdy, known by Miami Dolphins fans, continues to be praised as a potential role model by a group of analysts who urge teams to search for their own version of him.

On Thursday’s episode of “Pro Football Talk,”Mike Florio urged the Dolphins to contemplate a possible alternative for Tua Tagovailoa, causing the list to expand.

“There’s no long-term deal with Tua yet he wants one. This is the final up-or-out year for Tua Tagovailoa. If it doesn’t work, where do you go next year? Where do you pivot? Do you just get a free agent, or do you have somebody you’ve been developing other than Skylar Thompson? [03:30 onwards]

In 2023, the Dolphins achieved a record of 11-6, ultimately falling to the Kansas City Chiefs and their quarterback Patrick Mahomes in one of the coldest games of the year, possibly even in NFL history.

Despite the former Alabama quarterback’s arrival, Dolphins fans still vividly recall the team’s struggles to acquire him. Prior to his addition, the team relied on Ryan Tannehill, who was decent but consistently plagued by injuries. With Tannehill at the helm, the team’s potential was limited to the Wild Card round. Rather than settling for Tannehill for the foreseeable future, the team made the decision to part ways with him.

After that, they endured a few years of change. The initial year was a necessary sacrifice in order to secure a chance to acquire a quarterback. Then, fans patiently waited through a season of rookie struggles and Ryan Fitzpatrick. Following that, they witnessed a promising year but no successful playoff run.

In 2022, the Miami Dolphins faced a roadblock as Tagovailoa was absent for part of the year. However, in 2023, with both Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill in top form, the team once again reached a stumbling block in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.

Many people would contend that the team has come full circle, similar to Theon Greyjoy’s attempt to flee from Ramsay Bolton in Game of Thrones, after enduring five years of struggle and hard work.
