Windows 11 to Introduce Native File Transfer App
Transferring data from an old PC to a new one can often feel like a daunting process, especially for those who have recently made the switch. Although various third-party applications exist to facilitate this task, the lack of a built-in solution can be frustrating for many users. Fortunately, Windows 11 is set to address this gap with the introduction of a new file transfer application, highly anticipated by the user community. Recent insights from the Insider Beta build 22635.4945 reveal that Microsoft is actively developing this much-needed feature, with initial hints provided by well-known Windows Insider, @Phantomofearth.
What to Expect from the Migration App
Thanks to insights from @a_donglee, we have preliminary visual representations of what the Migration App may look like. It’s essential to remember that these designs were derived from decompiled materials, indicating that they represent only the early stages of development. The final iteration is likely to differ significantly from these mockups.

Features of the Migration App
According to the shared screenshots, the Migration App aims to simplify the data transfer process by allowing users to back up their current PC to OneDrive, facilitating a seamless transition to their new device. It appears that the tool will leverage Wi-Fi connectivity and will require both computers to be in close proximity. There are indications that it will incorporate the system’s Nearby Sharing feature to streamline connectivity.
The data transfer process will involve both PCs connecting to the same network and using a one-time password for pairing. If the connection is interrupted, users can reconnect and resume the transfer process without starting from scratch.
