Since its launch, Microsoft’s $1 Xbox Game Pass offer has been a key element of its promotional strategy for this beloved subscription service. This enticing deal provides users with an affordable way to explore a vast library of games, encouraging newcomers to experience the service risk-free for a limited time. However, for those eager to take advantage of this offer in the near future, they have missed out.
The final day to access this promotional offer was October 8, as reported by The Verge. Coincidentally, the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on October 25 will mark the first time a Call of Duty title will be available on Game Pass on its release day.
The cessation of the $1 trial means that gamers can no longer dive into the highly-anticipated Black Ops 6 campaign during a two-week trial period. Now, players are faced with a choice: purchase the game outright for $69.99 or subscribe to either Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for $19.99 or PC Game Pass at $11.99.
This limited-time offer has previously vanished right before significant game releases, such as Starfield’s launch last year. This suggests that Microsoft might be adopting a strategy of discontinuing the $1 trial around major first-party game launches. Additionally, while this trial initially stretched for 30 days, Microsoft shortened it to just 14 days last August.
With Black Ops 6 releasing, it’s been one year since Microsoft completed its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. As part of this growing partnership, more titles from the publisher are gradually being added to Game Pass. Games like Modern Warfare III and Warzone will be available on Xbox Cloud Gaming later this month, alongside the StarCraft series for PC Game Pass. Moreover, Overwatch 2 is also providing exclusive benefits for subscribers.
