Microsoft Word’s Coaching Copilot Feature Assists in Content Review and Rewriting

Today, Microsoft unveiled a groundbreaking feature in Word called Coaching with Copilot. This innovative tool empowers users to analyze and refine their writing, ensuring it resonates effectively with the intended audience.

Users have the flexibility to accept or reject the suggestions made by Copilot, which are presented separately from the original content, ensuring no alterations are made until you agree. If you want tailored Coaching for a specific section of your document, simply highlight the text and select ‘Get Coaching.’

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to utilize this feature:

  1. Select a portion of text—or the entire document—in Microsoft Word.
  2. Click on the Copilot icon and choose “Get coaching”from the dropdown menu. Alternatively, you can use the Alt+I keyboard shortcut to access the Copilot options and select “Get coaching.”
  3. Examine the recommendations provided by Copilot.

Currently, you cannot directly implement the suggestions from the Coaching dialog box. However, Microsoft is working diligently to introduce this capability soon. Until then, a temporary solution is to copy the feedback from the Coaching dialog and paste it into the “Draft with Copilot”prompt for the highlighted text, allowing you to harness Copilot’s assistance in applying these insights to your document.

This new Coaching with Copilot feature is in the early preview phase and is being rolled out to a select group of Microsoft 365 Copilot or Copilot Pro license users in the US. As of now, it is accessible only in Word for the web and is designed for documents in English.

Coaching with Copilot presents a promising resource for writers at any stage, offering them the opportunity to enhance their writing and communicate their ideas more clearly and powerfully.
