Microsoft Windows 11 24H2 Camera Issues Lead to App Freezes
The newly released Windows 11 version 24H2 comes with a significant number of known issues, and Microsoft has confirmed even more recently. One of the newly identified problems could explain why some users are unable to “see”the update on their devices, as Microsoft has implemented an upgrade block to prevent a negative user experience.
As noted in a recent notification from Microsoft’s official documentation, users of Windows 11 24H2 may encounter application freezes when utilizing the built-in camera for functionalities like facial or object recognition, including using Windows Hello for authentication.
Currently, there are no workarounds available, which means that affected users must either revert to Windows 11 version 23H2 (or earlier) or patiently wait for a patch from Microsoft. Users running previous versions of Windows 11 and Windows 10 will not receive the 24H2 update via Windows Update, and Microsoft advises against trying to force the update manually. Another unfortunate aspect of this issue is that there is no straightforward way to determine whether your system is affected by the bug. It is confirmed that this issue impacts client versions of Windows 11 24H2. Therefore, customers using integrated cameras that allow for facial and object recognition who wish to upgrade to Windows 11 version 24H2 face a dilemma: they can either risk a manual update (click here if your PC is unsupported) or wait for an official fix. Microsoft has assured users that they are working on a resolution and will share updates as they become available.
