Windows 10 and 11 Developments

This section covers the latest happenings around Microsoft’s operating systems, including feature enhancements, bug fixes, and notable user experiences. This week, Microsoft rolled out its May 2025 Patch Tuesday updates. Users on Windows 10 received the update KB5058379, corresponding to builds 19044.5852 and 19045.5852. Windows 11 users saw updates KB5058411 for version 24H2 and KB5058405 for versions 23H2 and 22H2, in addition to an out-of-band hotpatch for Windows 11 LTSC 2024.

Along with security enhancements, these patches addressed bugs, notably one affecting Linux dual-boot setups on Windows 11 systems. However, they also resulted in BitLocker issues for specific Intel-based systems; Microsoft is actively working on a fix.

As Windows 10 approaches its end of support, many users are contemplating an upgrade to Windows 11 before the October 2025 deadline. Beyond aesthetic changes like taskbar adjustments, Windows 11 offers functional updates, including an improved Calendar app intended to enhance the user experience for Microsoft 365 subscribers.
