Windows 10 and 11 Updates

This section focuses on the ongoing developments around Microsoft’s latest operating systems, including new features, controversial updates, and any bugs. We’ll also touch on older OS versions when relevant.

This week, Microsoft rolled out an important out-of-band update for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2. The update, KB5070773, addresses issues with USB mice and keyboards malfunctioning after previous updates. For Windows Server users, updates KB5070881, KB5070879, and KB5070884 were also made available, alongside new recovery updates for Windows 11.

Microsoft also highlighted the smart card authentication issue that surfaced after the October 2025 Patch Tuesday update. While a fix is available, it involves modifications to the system registry, which can be complex for some users.

After the recent Patch Tuesday updates, Microsoft disabled a feature in File Explorer that displayed files downloaded from the web in the Preview Pane. This change aims to prevent potential NTLM hash leaks. However, users who wish to browse such files can still do so if they trust the download.

New support materials released by Microsoft detail the driver update process in Windows, addressing common user confusion surrounding repeated installations of seemingly identical or outdated drivers. Additionally, a cautionary note was issued regarding the security risks for users opting to remain on Windows 10 without ongoing security updates.

If you’re considering an upgrade to Windows 11—especially with Windows 10 now officially unsupported—remember that the new OS enables BitLocker drive encryption by default.
