New Possibilities for Xbox Cloud Gaming: A Hint of Affordability Ahead?
For subscribers of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, the ability to stream games via Xbox Cloud Gaming offers an enticing alternative to traditional gameplay on their favorite devices. While currently limited to those enrolling in the premium subscription, recent comments from Jason Ronald, Microsoft’s Vice President of Next Generation, suggest that a more budget-friendly option for cloud gaming could be on the horizon.
Insights from the Xbox Podcast
In a recent episode of the official Xbox podcast, Ronald joined Jason Beaumont, Vice President of Experiences at Xbox, to discuss the future of their cloud gaming service and the ongoing commitment to enhancing gaming accessibility.
“Our goal is really simple. We want to bring more games to more people. Cloud gaming is great at that, ”said Beaumont. He highlighted plans to broaden the service’s availability across international borders and on an array of devices.
Ronald elaborated on this vision, mentioning that a significant number of players utilize Game Pass Ultimate for accessing the cloud — whether as their main gaming method or as a convenient option while traveling. He indicated that there is potential for expanding the service’s affordability, which could lead to enhanced accessibility for a broader audience.
“One of the things we see is there’s a lot of players who use Game Pass Ultimate to access the cloud…I think it really opens up the opportunity to make it much more affordable and to make it more accessible to more players, whether that’s going into new regions or new ways to actually access the cloud, ”stated Ronald.
Speculations on Future Plans
While Ronald did not confirm any immediate plans for launching a separate tier for Game Pass strictly dedicated to cloud gaming, this concept seems to be a logical step for Microsoft. An exclusive streaming-focused tier could allow users to enjoy cloud gaming without the bundled features typically included with the full Game Pass subscription.
As discussions continue within the company, all eyes are on Microsoft’s upcoming innovations in this space. Notably, they are gearing up for the unveiling of the ROG Xbox Ally device at Gamescom 2025, a launch that may coincide with new initiatives in cloud gaming.
