Microsoft makes major improvements to the Windows update process
The Windows 11 2022 Update is already rolling out with a ton of new features, with more coming in October. In light of the arrival of the first major update for Windows 11, Microsoft has detailed how it makes the Windows update experience so much better.
Microsoft has identified two key improvements that apply to both feature updates and monthly updates after the release of Windows 11 2022 Update.
First, Microsoft emphasized that it had significantly reduced the size of Windows Updates, which in turn resulted in faster installs. Tech firm Redmond claims it has reduced the size of updates to 450MB in feature updates for some users. As for the monthly cumulative update, it is said that it “restored approximately 3 times the size of the update (100 MB) returned to the user.”
Another improvement that Microsoft is making in this area has to do with its carbon footprint. Moving forward, Windows will attempt to update at a time when more clean energy sources such as wind, sun, and water are available. This should lead to a reduction in carbon emissions as Windows PCs around the world are moving away from fossil fuel-based energy sources, at least as part of the upgrade process.
As far as getting the update itself, the Windows 11 2022 update will initially be available to those who seek it through Windows Update. Those who wish can go to Settings > Windows Update > Check for Updates . As usual, the update will be released in stages with quality signals and safety locks to ensure a smooth update process. However, if you just can’t wait for the update, check out the topic guide here.
Meanwhile, Windows 10 customers should first check if their PC is eligible for Windows 11 using the PC Health Check app. If they meet the minimum system requirements, they should go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for Updates to see if an update is available for them.
Microsoft once again emphasized that if your existing device is not eligible for Windows 11, you should stay on Windows 10 as it is supported until October 14, 2025. The next feature update for Windows 10 will arrive next month as version 22H2. also.
Finally, IT administrators in commercial and educational markets are encouraged to begin targeted deployment of Windows 11. In the meantime, the Windows 11 2022 update is available through regular commercial channels such as Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), Windows Update for Business (WUfB), and Volume Licensing Service (VLSC).
