Exciting Enhancements to the Microsoft Snipping Tool
In 2023, Microsoft unveiled a groundbreaking feature called Text Actions in the Snipping Tool, which allows users to identify and extract text from screenshots effortlessly. This feature revolutionized how users could utilize text found in images, making it easier to copy and repurpose that content.
Recently, Microsoft announced a significant update to the Snipping Tool for Windows 11 Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels. The latest version, 11.2503.27.0, introduces the much-welcomed Text Extractor directly into the Snipping Tool’s capture bar. This innovation removes the additional step of taking a screenshot when users wish to copy text, now providing immediate access to text extraction from any displayed image on their screen.
How to Utilize the New Text Extractor Feature
To take advantage of this enhanced functionality, users can launch the Snipping Tool app or use the keyboard shortcut Win + Shift + S
. Once the tool is activated, simply click the new “Text Extractor” button located in the toolbar. Users can then highlight the area of the screen they wish to scan for text, allowing for easy selection and copying of the extracted content.
For those looking for efficiency, the Snipping Tool offers the “Copy all text” feature within the toolbar, allowing users to copy every piece of text from the selected region at once. Additionally, the “More options” dropdown menu presents two useful functions:
- Remove line breaks from the copied text for cleaner formatting.
- Enable “Automatically copy text, ” which expedites the process by dismissing the Snipping Tool promptly and copying all text directly to the clipboard.
Latest Feature: Draw & Hold Experience
In conjunction with the Text Extractor update, Microsoft has introduced another exciting feature to the Snipping Tool app: the Draw & Hold experience. This tool allows users to effortlessly create precise lines and shapes within their screenshots. To use this feature, select the pen tool and draw over the image. By holding the cursor steady for a moment before releasing, the stroke will automatically transform into a polished shape. Users can then resize or adjust their creations as needed, enhancing their annotation capabilities.
With these updates, Microsoft continues to refine the Snipping Tool, providing users with intuitive tools designed to improve productivity and creativity. Stay tuned for more innovations from Microsoft that aim to enhance workflow and ease of use.
