Major Enhancements to OneDrive Photos Announced by Microsoft
During the recent Copilot + OneDrive digital event, Microsoft unveiled significant upgrades to the OneDrive Photos experience, promising to enrich how users interact with their memories. This update showcases a freshly leaked OneDrive Photos app which has generated considerable anticipation among users.
Discover Curated Memories with the New Moments Tab
At the core of this update is the Moments tab, designed to provide users with a thoughtfully curated selection of memories derived from their photo collections. This feature highlights nostalgic content such as On This Day throwbacks, recent highlights, and shared memories. By selecting a specific moment, users can enjoy a captivating slideshow that captures the essence of that occasion.
Rediscover Favorites with Photo Shuffle
Another exciting addition is the Photo Shuffle feature within the Moments tab. This section randomly showcases images from a user’s OneDrive, prompting them to rediscover hidden favorites. Users have the option to reshuffle this collection, unearthing forgotten treasures within their photo library. The revamped Moments experience will be accessible via both the OneDrive website and mobile applications.

AI-Powered Editing and Photo Management Tools
In conjunction with these upgrades, Microsoft is rolling out AI-enhanced photo editing tools on the OneDrive mobile apps for iOS and Android. This functionality enables users to apply various styles and enhancements to their images effortlessly. An additional feature known as Photo Stacks will intelligently group similar blurry or duplicate images, streamlining photo management. For subscribers of Microsoft 365, OneDrive will now offer suggestions for cleaning up their collections, ensuring that unwanted or unclear images can be quickly identified and removed.
Introducing the Photos Agent
One of the highlight features introduced at the event is the new Photos Agent within the Microsoft 365 Copilot application. This AI-driven tool allows users to search for images using natural language queries. For instance, a user can request to see the “best shots from last weekend, ”and the Photos Agent will curate and display them. This powerful tool essentially facilitates the creation of instant albums based on user prompts, enhancing the overall experience of photo sharing.
Availability for this innovative Photos Agent is anticipated soon, targeting Microsoft 365 Premium subscribers via the Copilot experience on both Windows and Web platforms.

What to Expect in the Unified OneDrive Photos Experience
Looking ahead, Microsoft plans to launch a unified OneDrive Photos experience in the upcoming year. This will include exciting new features such as a Gallery view, AI-driven slideshows, and the ability to view local photos stored on the PC, among other enhancements.
