Update on Windows 11 Version 24H2 and AMD CPU Support
Since its general availability more than four months ago, Windows 11’s version 24H2 has seen significant advancements as Microsoft proactively addresses various issues that users experienced during the download and upgrade process. Recently, notable improvements include a resolution for the Auto HDR glitch, along with alleviated BSOD problems affecting Asus PC users.
New Additions to AMD’s CPU Support List
In a welcomed move, Microsoft has incorporated support for AMD’s Ryzen 8000 series, both in desktop and mobile processors. This addition aligns with earlier expectations, yet some critical components still remain absent from the support lineup. Notably, the Ryzen AI Max+ and the older 300 series parts are yet to be included.
The Ryzen AI Max+ was introduced at CES 2025 earlier this year, while the 300 series was unveiled at Computex 2024 in June of the previous year. The absence of these CPUs from the official list is perplexing, particularly when considering their pre-existing availability prior to the launch of Windows 11 version 24H2.
Accountability for Delayed Support
While it is unclear whether AMD or Microsoft bears the responsibility for the lag in support for these processors, this situation is not unprecedented. Previously, similar issues arose, as evidenced by the delayed inclusion of the Ryzen 7320U with Windows 10. This pattern may raise concerns about the coordination between hardware manufacturers and software developers.

For those interested, the complete list of supported AMD processors can be found here on Microsoft’s official website. If your AMD CPU appears on the list for 24H2, rest assured that it should also function correctly with earlier Windows 11 versions.
Challenges on the Intel Front
