Microsoft unveils new Paint, Snipping Tool, and Notepad features for insiders

Exciting New Features for Windows 11 Insiders

Windows 11 insiders participating in the Beta and Release Preview channels have a plethora of new features to explore this week. Along with two fresh preview builds, Microsoft has unveiled significant updates for three key applications: Notepad, Paint, and Snipping Tool. Below, we delve into the highlights of these updates.

Enhancements to Paint

The latest version of Paint, 11.2502.121.0, introduces an upgraded Cocreator side panel. This feature now boasts a more user-friendly and streamlined interface. For users with compatible devices, opening Cocreator enables them to express their ideas verbally, which can then be transformed into doodles with the help of the Copilot. The side panel not only allows for adjustments in AI creativity through a slider but also offers a “Try again”button for regenerating results.

Improvements in Snipping Tool

Windows 11’s native screenshot utility, Snipping Tool, has rolled out a new capability called Draw and Hold. This feature allows users to create precise shapes — such as circles, squares, or lines — by holding their drawing. The application will automatically straighten the shape, enhancing the user experience. Additionally, developers will appreciate the improved protocol launch experience included in this update. Notepad Adds Document Summarization

In its update to version 11.25.01.30.0, Notepad has introduced a document summarization feature. Users can now select text and press Ctrl + M to generate a brief summary of the selected content. This feature is particularly beneficial for those with a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription, as it utilizes AI credits. Notably, Copilot Pro subscribers can enjoy this functionality without any limits.
