During Microsoft’s Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2024 livestream today, the tech giant announced the upcoming launch of the first expansion pack for its notable fantasy real-time strategy remake, Age of Mythology: Retold. This exciting new expansion, titled Immortal Pillars, will introduce a Chinese-themed pantheon for players on both PC and Xbox Series X|S.
According to a post on Xbox Wire, additional details regarding the expansion pack were revealed:
This new expansion aims to bring the rich myths and grandeur of China to life with an entirely new pantheon of gods, mythological units, divine powers, and a captivating campaign inspired by Chinese mythology. Fans of Age of Mythology: Retold can invoke the favor of 12 new gods, including Nüwa, the goddess of creation; Chiyou, the bull-headed god of war; and Nüba, the restless goddess of drought. Players can also summon brand new divine powers, including the mighty Yinglong, the legendary flying rain dragon of Chinese lore.
As of now, Microsoft has not disclosed the release date for the new expansion. However, Immortal Pillars will be available at no extra charge to anyone who purchases the Age of Mythology: Retold Premium Edition for $49.99. Additionally, players who own the standard edition of the game can upgrade to the Premium Edition for $24.99. Microsoft also has plans for a second expansion of the game slated for a later date.
Furthermore, Microsoft and its Age of Empires/Mythology development team, World’s Edge, have been actively releasing updates for Age of Mythology: Retold. Recently, players had access to download the 17.30764 update, which includes numerous bug fixes, enhancements, and adjustments to game balance, maps, and units. In addition to Age of Mythology: Retold, Microsoft has also confirmed plans to introduce new downloadable content for Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition, which will feature two new civilizations and is expected to launch in late 2024.
