Microsoft Expands Search Features in Windows 11 Amid User Backlash
In an effort to enhance user experience, Microsoft initiated tests for a revamped Search function in Windows 11 last month. However, this feature is currently exclusive to PCs equipped with Copilot technology. The company has been actively advocating for these AI-enabled devices, even suggesting that users with Windows 10 systems that are not eligible for an upgrade consider purchasing them.
New Capabilities in Windows Search
Recently, Microsoft unveiled additional enhancements related to Windows Search. A notable update is the feature’s capability to retrieve specific Settings when needed. Furthermore, users will now be able to download applications directly from the Microsoft Store using the Search function. Yet, this new functionality has drawn substantial criticism from users.
User Reactions to the Update
Giorgio Sardo, Vice President for App Store & Apps at Microsoft, showcased this feature on his official X account. The response was largely negative, with many users voicing their discontent about the optionality of this new addition. Prominent Windows enthusiast Xeno raised concerns about whether Microsoft would provide an option to disable this feature—a query that resonated with many, as evidenced by significant engagement on social media.
