Enhanced AI Capabilities in Microsoft File Explorer
Microsoft is continuously evolving its File Explorer, implementing updates that sometimes raise questions about their practical use. Recently, the tech giant introduced the “Ask Copilot”feature, and now, in build 26120.4151 (KB5058486), released on May 19, it has rolled out AI Actions. This new functionality, currently available to select users, allows quick access to advanced AI-driven features such as background removal, blurring effects, Visual Search, and object erasing. To access these features, simply right-click a file and choose “AI Actions”from the context menu.

How to Enable AI Actions
Currently, this feature is being gradually rolled out to Windows Insiders in the Dev and Beta Channels. Since this rollout occurs progressively, not all users with the latest build can access the AI Actions without some intervention. Fortunately, enabling the feature is straightforward:
- Make sure your Windows 11 is updated to the latest Dev or Beta build.
- Download ViveTool from GitHub and extract the files into an accessible folder.
- Open Command Prompt with Administrator privileges and navigate to the folder containing ViveTool using the CD command. For example, if you saved ViveTool in C:\Vive, enter CD C:\Vive.
- Execute the command vivetool /enable /id:54792954, 55345819, 48433719 and hit Enter.
- Restart your computer to apply the changes.
Current Limitations and Future Enhancements
At present, AI Actions support only image files (JPG, JPEG, and PNG).Future updates are expected to enhance this feature by introducing support for Microsoft 365 files, which would enable users to summarize documents, generate FAQs, and more. Importantly, AI Actions do not necessitate a Copilot+ PC; they are accessible on all Windows 11 devices.
Additional Updates in Windows 11 Preview Builds
The latest preview builds of Windows 11 come with several other significant enhancements, including:
- A newly advanced page in the Settings application
- Revamped Windows Widgets
- Improved energy-saving features
- The capability to compress images prior to sharing
