Enhancing Communication in Microsoft Teams with New Transcription Features
Microsoft Teams is continuously evolving to improve user experiences during meetings. One notable feature currently available is live transcription, which provides real-time captions alongside each speaker’s name and timestamp. For users subscribed to Teams Premium, there is an added advantage of live translated transcriptions that facilitate better understanding among attendees by converting meeting transcripts into their preferred languages.
New Language Options for Multilingual Meetings
During the Ignite 2024 event, Microsoft unveiled exciting enhancements aimed at minimizing language barriers in Teams meetings. The upcoming multilingual transcription feature will allow participants to choose from an impressive array of 51 spoken languages and 31 translation languages. This development means attendees can receive accurate meeting transcripts regardless of the languages spoken during the discussion.
Live Translated Captions and Meeting Recaps
Furthermore, Microsoft highlighted that live-translated captions and transcripts will also be available for multilingual meetings. This functionality is set to launch next year across all platforms—desktop, web, and mobile. At the conclusion of each meeting, organizers and co-organizers will have the ability to download the transcript from the event page, now enhanced by the new translation support for meeting recaps. The transcript will be auto-generated in the translation language selected for the meeting.
User-Friendly Updates for Meeting Recaps
Users will find it easy to modify the translation language for their intelligent meeting recap directly from the Recap tab. This innovative feature will also be available in the Teams experience across all devices next year, streamlining the process of accessing meeting summaries in preferred languages.
Introducing Storyline to Microsoft Teams
In addition to enhancing language capabilities, Microsoft is integrating the Storyline feature from Viva Engage into Teams. This feature resembles a news feed, akin to that of social media platforms like Facebook, enabling employees to share updates and celebrate key milestones. The Storyline feed curates content from users’ connections as well as trending narratives across the organization.
Preview of Storyline in Teams
This integration provides employees with opportunities to follow updates from organizational leaders, discover new content shared by peers, and engage more fully within their workplace community. The Storyline feature is expected to enter preview mode early next year.
