Microsoft is set to introduce a revamped Calendar feature, part of the New Outlook for Windows, to Microsoft Teams. The company is actively developing this functionality, which will soon be available as an optional feature for users to experiment with. According to the Microsoft 365 (M365) roadmap, this initiative aims to create a cohesive user experience across the New Outlook for Windows, Outlook on the web, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Places.
Much like the transition options from Classic Outlook to the New Outlook, users will have the ability to opt-in for the new Calendar feature in Teams through a simple toggle. Detailed information about this feature can be found in the M365 roadmap entry, which states:
Microsoft Teams: Users can opt-in to try the new calendar in Teams
The updated calendar in Teams integrates advanced productivity features and cutting-edge tools like Microsoft Copilot, assisting users in effectively managing their schedules, preparing for meetings, and summarizing discussions, while also helping to find the best days for in-person collaboration. This new calendar promises a seamless experience, functioning as a single, integrated calendar that connects New Outlook for Windows, Outlook on the web, Microsoft Places, and now Teams.
With this enhancement, a ‘New calendar’ toggle will be visible at the top right corner of the calendar app within Teams. By default, the new calendar will be turned off, allowing users the choice to activate it for a fresh experience.
For more details, you can visit the Microsoft 365 roadmap site here, where this feature is listed under ID 415415; the rollout is anticipated to begin next year.
In addition to this, there’s another noteworthy enhancement on the Microsoft 365 roadmap regarding an improved offline mode for the New Outlook, allowing users to launch the application without needing an internet connection.
