Microsoft Unveils Upcoming Features for Teams and Edge
In a bid to enhance user engagement and attract new clientele, Microsoft is continually rolling out updates to its suite of applications and services. Among the key players in this initiative are Excel, Teams, and Copilot, all of which regularly receive innovative features designed to improve user experience. Recently, Microsoft announced exciting upcoming enhancements specifically for Teams and Edge.
Streamlined Recording in Teams
Currently, it is customary for users who wish to record one-on-one meetings in Teams to verbally notify the other participant before proceeding. To simplify this process, Microsoft plans to introduce a new feature aimed at IT administrators. Once activated, this setting will automatically mute the non-recording participant and disable their video feed as soon as recording commences. Following these actions, the participant will receive a notification requesting explicit consent for the recording. This feature, designated with ID 503295, is expected to debut in November for both Windows and Mac platforms.
Additional Enhancements in Teams
Teams users can anticipate further improvements on the horizon. One notable change, identified by Roadmap ID 503300, will allow the use of emojis in section names for chats and channel lists, set to launch in November 2025. Additionally, starting October 2025, Roadmap ID 505791 will enable users to seamlessly integrate applications directly into Shared Channels.
Edge to Combat Malicious Extensions
In tandem with Teams enhancements, Microsoft Edge is set to receive a significant update regarding extension safety. Under Roadmap ID 503593, Edge will automatically identify and revoke permissions for potentially malicious sideloaded extensions. While the specific criteria for categorizing an extension as malicious remains somewhat ambiguous, there is a historical precedent for popular extensions being repurposed for harmful intents, including spyware and malware distribution. This forthcoming feature, although targeting only sideloaded extensions, promises to enhance user security substantially when it launches in November 2025.
As Microsoft continues to evolve its application ecosystem, these forthcoming features illustrate a commitment to improving user experience, enhancing security, and maintaining customer loyalty.
