Microsoft Store gets refreshed homepage featuring app categories

After a lengthy month of anticipation, Windows Insiders within the Canary Channel have finally received the latest preview build, version 27718. Along with a multitude of fixes and minor modifications within the build, Microsoft has also unveiled an enhancement to the Microsoft Store. This update includes a refreshed home page featuring a restructured categories experience.

Starting from version 22409 and onwards, the Microsoft Store app now displays a strip of app categories directly beneath the featured applications and games section. Notably, this same line of categories is accessible in the stable version but is limited to sections like apps and games. The recent update extends this feature to the home page as well. Microsoft describes the update as follows:

Windows Insiders operating in the Canary and Dev Channels on version 22409.xxxx.x of the Microsoft Store and above will notice the following improvement being rolled out:

App Categories: The apps page within the Microsoft Store will now showcase a new categories experience positioned just below the featured section. By clicking on any of the categories, users will be directed to a page where they can explore a wide range of apps associated with that specific category. We hope this fresh experience will enhance your browsing in the store as you search for your next favorite app. We welcome your feedback!

While the update was highlighted in the release notes for build 27718, the revamped Microsoft Store app is accessible not just for Canary Insiders but also for users testing Dev builds.

The Microsoft Store app will perform automatic updates (unless this feature has been disabled), though users can expedite the process by navigating to the Downloads section and clicking on the “Get updates”button.

Additionally, app updates now feature comprehensive changelogs, making it significantly easier to identify new changes and features.
