Microsoft Reveals New Features for Windows 11 LTSC 2024

Earlier today, Microsoft released comprehensive details regarding the Windows 11 24H2 upgrade and its compatibility for managed PCs. This announcement was specifically tailored for IT system administrators responsible for managing systems within their organizations.

In addition to this, Microsoft has provided insights into Windows 11 LTSC, or Long Term Servicing Channel. The company had already confirmed in April that the Windows 11 2024 update would be designated as the LTSC, which aligns with the typical three-year release cycle for LTSC versions. However, specific information about its features was previously unavailable.

For those unfamiliar with the LTSC model, it serves as a specialized version of Windows tailored for environments that require high stability and minimal alterations, such as medical devices and industrial systems. LTSC only incorporates security updates and bug fixes, with major feature updates occurring approximately every three years, and it is supported for a decade. This is why the LTSC version does not include frequently updated components like Microsoft Edge or the Microsoft Store.

Microsoft has published a support document that outlines everything there is to know about the new features and improvements in Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC 2024. Additionally, information has been released regarding Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2024. The company has elaborated on these details under multiple categories, but here’s a summary.

Some of the notable features include support for Bluetooth LE (Low Energy), Wi-Fi 7, and HEVC (H.266), among others.

Upgrades related to Windows management include improvements to Windows LAPS (Local Admin Password Solution) policy, enhanced automatic account management, and image rollback detection.

Security enhancements have also been introduced with the integration of Pluton, Rust, and SHA-3 cryptography. Additional features include support for Passkeys, passwordless logins, and personal data encryption.
