Microsoft Reveals Key Details About Windows 11 24H2 KB5054148 Dev Build

Microsoft Unveils Dev Channel Update: Build 26200.5510

Today, Microsoft has launched a significant update for the Dev Channel, identifying the new build as 26200.5510 under the identifier KB5054148. This development marks a strategic shift, as the Dev Channel transitions to the 26200 series of builds.

Transitioning to New Builds

According to Microsoft, this update signifies a notable change in the development process:

Starting today, the Dev Channel is jumping ahead to receive 26200 series builds. This means that the window to switch from the Dev Channel to the Beta Channel is closed and once Build 26200.5510 is installed. If you are in the Dev Channel today and still want to switch to the Beta Channel at the last minute, when Build 26200.5510 is offered you can pause updates in Windows Update and switch your channel to the Beta Channel and un-pause updates.

These 26200 series builds are based on Windows 11, version 24H2 and will contain many of the same features and improvements as the 26120 series builds that will continue to be released in the Beta Channel. Over time, we will be making behind-the-scenes platform changes in these builds and these builds may have different known issues because of those changes than what we’re flighting to the Beta Channel.

In the case of Build 26200.5510 today – this build contains the same features and improvements as Build 26120.3576 released previously.

New Known Issues in Build 26200.5510

While this build does not introduce any new features, it does come with a list of known issues that users should be aware of:

Known issues

[General]

  • Upon resetting your PC via Settings > System > Recovery, the build version may incorrectly display as Build 26100 instead of 26200. This will not hinder your ability to receive subsequent Dev Channel updates that address this issue.
  • The setting for receiving the latest updates via Settings > Windows Update might not function properly, turning off automatically. This is a cosmetic flaw and will be rectified in a future update.

[Recall]

  • [REMINDER] Ensure you have the latest version of Microsoft 365 apps for seamless access to your documents.

The following issues related to Recall will be addressed in upcoming updates:

  • Some users may find Recall unable to save new snapshots or modify settings; a fix is on the way.
  • Others might experience issues with Recall not saving automatically, along with activation problems in Settings.
  • Recall can be managed through the “Turn Windows features on or off” menu. Current caching of Recall binaries is temporary, with complete removal in future updates.

[Click to Do]

  • [REMINDER] The local moderation of intelligent text actions has replaced cloud operations, enhancing safety in interactions available in Click to Do within Recall.
  • [REMINDER] If you notice issues with actions related to image entities, make sure to update the Photos and Paint apps from the Microsoft Store.

[Improved Windows Search]

  • [REMINDER] For optimized Windows Search capabilities on Copilot+ PCs, connecting your device is advised for the initial search indexing process, which can be monitored under Settings > Privacy & Security > Searching Windows.

[File Explorer]

  • We are currently addressing an issue that may cause File Explorer to respond slowly upon closure using the X button, potentially affecting other title bar functionalities.
  • An issue that causes File Explorer Home to crash occasionally is under investigation; however, navigating through other folders remains functional.

[Taskbar]

  • Efforts are ongoing to resolve the issue where taskbar icons do not resize correctly when using your PC in tablet mode.

[Task Manager]

  • Post the addition of the CPU Utility column, you may observe that System Idle Process shows a constant value of 0.
  • The CPU graphs within the Performance section may still reflect older utility calculations.

[Widgets]

The weather widget might be temporarily unavailable.
