Resolution of Windows 11 Time Settings Bug in Version 24H2
In November 2024, Microsoft acknowledged a notable bug impacting Windows 11 version 24H2. This issue limited users from modifying specific date and time settings without having administrative access. As a result, regular user accounts were compelled to revert to the traditional Control Panel for any time zone adjustments, causing inconvenience.

Recently, Microsoft provided an update via the Windows Health Dashboard, announcing the resolution of this bug in the latest non-security update, identified as KB5050094. The official notice states:
This issue is addressed starting with Windows updates released January 28, 2025 (KB5050094) and later. This resolution is gradually rolling out and will be fully available in the coming months as part of a monthly Windows update. We recommend you install the latest update for your device as it contains important improvements and issue resolutions, including this one.
How to Download the Update
To obtain KB5050094, navigate to Settings > Windows Update and check for available updates. If KB5050094 appears, simply click on Download and Install to apply the update.
Workarounds for Immediate Resolution
For users who prefer to avoid preview updates or need a quick solution, Microsoft has provided alternative methods to bypass the bug:
- Open the start menu and enter “control panel”into the search. Click on the top result, and in the Control Panel window, use the search bar to type “change the time zone.”Then select the top result.
- Access the Date and Time settings by using the Run dialog: press the Windows key + ‘R’ and enter
timedate.cpl.
Scope of the Bug
Importantly, this bug does not affect users operating on Windows 11 version 23H2 or earlier, nor does it impact Windows 10 systems.
Continued Updates and Existing Issues
Microsoft has patched numerous bugs in Windows 11 version 24H2, enhancing user experience by resolving issues related to audio playback, game loading failures, Auto HDR functionality, among others.
