Microsoft Launches New Preview Updates for Windows 11
Recently, Microsoft unveiled two new optional non-security preview release updates: KB5064080 for Windows 11 version 23H2, and KB5064081 for the upcoming Windows 11 version 24H2. These releases include important enhancements alongside dynamic updates aimed at improving system functionality.
Understanding Dynamic Updates
Dynamic updates are designed to enhance the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE), often referred to as Safe OS updates, as well as to update the installation binaries for a smoother setup process. Specifically, these packages target existing Windows images before deployment, ensuring users benefit from crucial fixes and improvements.
Included in these updates are essential corrections to the Setup.exe
binaries, alongside SafeOS updates that enhance the Windows Recovery Environment. Moreover, these dynamic updates ensure that important content like Language Packs (LP) and Features on Demand (FODs) are preserved during the upgrade. Notably, VBScript, which is currently classified as a FOD, remains part of Windows 11 version 24H2.
Update Specifics
While updates were released for both setup and recovery aspects, they were exclusively available for version 24H2, meaning previous versions did not receive similar upgrades. Additionally, these updates apply to Windows Server 2025. Below are the details of the updates released:
