Microsoft Releases Latest Windows Terminal Updates with Important Bug Fixes

Microsoft has rolled out two new updates for Windows Terminal. The release version 1.22.2702.0 is available for users testing preview releases, while 1.21.2701.0 is intended for the Stable Channel. Unlike the previous update, which was highlighted as the most significant update for the Terminal, this week’s updates focus on minor enhancements and bug fixes.

It’s important to mention that Windows Terminal version 1.21.2701.0 can currently be accessed only on GitHub, as Microsoft identified a “pretty annoying hanging issue”affecting systems running Windows 11 version 23H2. Consequently, the rollout has been paused, with a fix for the affected users expected to be available shortly through Windows Update.

Changes:

Alt+Keypad Plus will no longer be consumed unless EnableHexNumpad is activated in the registry.

A new configuration option for the default input scope for the IME is now available on the Startup page or via the JSON key defaultInputScope (enum default (default), alphanumericHalfWidth); this enables Terminal to accept English input even if your usual typing language differs.

Bug Fixes:

Multiple Emojis can now be successfully input at once on Windows 10.

In **cmd** and **python** (and other console line input users), selecting a command from history will no longer reintegrate it into history a second time.

Corrections have been made to some localizations.

Terminal focus management has improved for windows spawned by hosted console applications.

The search box will no longer obscure search results in the top right corner (unless scrolling isn’t possible).

Efforts have been intensified to maintain your scroll position when the search box is open but not actively displaying results.

The wt x-save feature was inadvertently disabled in the Preview build but has now been re-enabled.

The Command Prompt “quick fix”feature has also been restored in the Preview build.

RIS (ESC c) will revert the color scheme to your preferred default if it has been altered by any application.

Alt+Keypad Plus is now functional unless EnableHexNumpad is set to enabled in the registry.

The tab switcher will now showcase each tab’s color—if assigned—along with other tab details.

The configuration for the default IME input scope can now be configured via the Startup page or the JSON key defaultInputScope (enum default (default), alphanumericHalfWidth), allowing you to enforce English input if needed.

Bug Fixes:

The “Clear Buffer” command now functions correctly again.

In **cmd** and **python** (and other console line input environments), selecting a command from history will no longer add it back to history for a second time.

The experimental.colorSelection actions function correctly again after being disabled during action refactoring.

Localizations have been corrected for accuracy.

Focus management has improved for windows spawned by hosted console applications.

Enhancements are being made to ensure your scroll position remains stable when the search box is open but not in focus.
